Description: Aquaponics is a growing industry in the US and the world. At Auburn University, we have been conducting interdisciplinary aquaponic research over the past decade. This presentation will provide our experience from an economic perspective. For the last four years, we have tracked investment, daily costs, and receipts associated with this integrated tilapia-vegetable aquaponic system. From actual data, cash flows, enterprise budgets, and sensitivity analyses were developed and will be compared to our engineered enterprise budgets developed five years ago for the same system. Non-economists and aquaponic enthusiasts will become familiar with some of the basic building blocks used in farm management to determine profitability and cost of production of this exciting technology.
